I'm fundraising for...

This April, I’m taking on the MATES Big Lap 2025—running, walking, swimming, and cycling my way through the challenge all April. It’s not just about pushing myself physically, but about taking a stand for suicide prevention in our industry.

Every step, every lap, and every drop of sweat is about raising awareness and making sure no one struggles in silence. Every dollar raised helps MATES continue their life-saving work, supporting workers and their families across all worksites and industries.

I’ll be sharing updates throughout the month—every bit of support counts. Let’s run, walk, swim, and ride together for a stronger, safer industry.

The final stretch

Friday 25th Apr
23 April…..
In the week leading up to kicking off MATES Big Lap … my reasons were simple - to refresh awareness of how unexpectedly suicide touches your life and to keep me motivated to swim through April, along with my daily steps in nature.

In the first week the weather delivered relentless rain - nonetheless I dug in.

In the second week I shared in conversation my first experience close to suicide at 15…. So many shared back… friends and family,  people lost and the helplessness they experienced….  rather than being tormented by the signs not seen, they dug deep.

In the last week I discovered my ‘running mate’ (no political reference or actual running involved) was unwell… Just about every step I’ve taken for more than a decade has been with her loyally by my side.

So I’m back on the running machine with her watching on for what remains of our shared time.  I’m digging in to a new way.

What occurred to me is all the people who don’t have a running mate.  Running mates show up, no matter the weather, and are by your side every step. It sometimes comes with a little attitude or some healthy competition but sharing the journey sure makes it simpler, especially on the tough days.

Who would call you their running mate? Who do you call yours?

And if you haven’t yet and are able… follow the link to to donate - every little bit counts. #finalstretch
